Only hours after a twelve-day filibuster was broken, the U.S. Senate has confirmed Chuck Hagel as the nation’s next Secretary of Defense. The final vote was 57 - 41, with only four Republicans crossing party lines to vote for Hagel’s confirmation.
It’s worth mentioning that in this case “crossing party lines to vote for Hagel” means “voting for the guy who was a Republican Senator.” And not even one of those RINO New England Republicans. A solid Nebraska Republican. A guy of whom John McCain said in 2006, “I’d be honored to have Chuck with me in any capacity.”
