Gas Tax Holiday
The latest idiocy to come out of the Presidential race is a proposal for a gas tax Holiday this summer from Clinton and McCain. It would lower the price of gas fro the summer by about twenty-one cents on the gallon, assuming the gas companies actually passed the savings on to consumers. This would come out to a few dollars a tank and over the course of the summer could save you a whopping $25. As McCain says, it would be a little stimulus and you could use the savings to buy “school supplies” in the fall. Of course, economists all say it’s a terrible idea, nobody supports it. They’re trying to manufacture a wedge issue out of nothing. Clinton also wants to couple it with a new tax on gas companies—which would likely result in a gas price increase, which would lead to a net effect of nothing.
I lik ethat Obama isn’t willing to compromise the environment for the sake of a politically expedient talking point.
