As somebody who has done this, I would like to offer a cautionary tale about listening to carefully to Dr. Seuss. I have a lot of books in my house. In addition to the crannies and nooks, I have books on shelves, books in cabinets, books on mantles, books in dresser drawers, books on desks, books on the floor. There are somewhere around 1,100 of them.

This is all to say, I like books. A lot. But … they make moving very difficult. One of Carolyn’s professors talked about making professional decisions based on who would pay to ship all her books to a new location. Another would say something like, “Yes, I have a copy of that. Two actually. But one is in storage in London and the other one is still in Colorado.” Stacks of books everywhere in the house sounds great until you need to move to a slightly smaller house. Or until people figure out your a hoarder.

People occasionally tell me it’s not possible to have too many books. That is not strictly true.
