Simone Weil. Mills and Bunnynico started an fascinating discussion about love and suffering. I recommend both their posts, but want to offer some of my own thoughts.
When the vulnerable parts of me connect with the vulnerable parts of you, we love. When the vulnerable parts brush against the calcified, prickly parts, it cuts. I suffer.
I think the ultimate promise is not that suffering leads to salvation but that nobody suffers alone. When we feel the most vulnerable, we are loved, whether we can admit it or not.
