It doesn’t matter how good or bad the [Amazon Kindle] is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore. Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.

Steve Jobs (yes, apparently the real one. I would have guessed the fake one too.)
Normally I expect Steve Jobs to say intelligent things—but apparently you can’t be brilliant 100% of the time. It seems that at least 60% of the country is reading more than one book. That’s a higher percentage of people than believe in evolution. Add to that the people who haven’t read a book but have read newspapers or blogs or other non-book media. I would guess that “reading” is about as high as it has ever been.
Remember Harry Potter? Remember how a significant percentage of the country stayed up until midnight to purchase a book? Over all, publishing sales are up—so I assume somebody is either reading or buying books. I don’t say this to defend the Kindle, which I think is a brilliant idea terribly implimented. It’s just that…come on, did Steve Jobs seriously say that?
