Wikipedia Annoyance
I was checking something on Wikipedia. There was a “citation needed” on an article about Tom Stoppard’s play, Travesties. I have the book where the bit of information came from in my hand. Stoppard, Tom, Travesties, xi Grove Press, 1975. I thought about adding the necessary citation but decided that editing Wikipedia was no longer any fun because reading things written by the hardcore Wikipedia editors is sort of like making small talk at a party hosted by Musselini. (See WP:Fascism).
Wikipedia was revolutionary in that it managed to harness the creative drive of millions of amateur and professional scholars. Now Wikipedia is trying to become part of the establishment. It wants to be “encyclopedic”. In order to do this, it seems to have co-opted the pettiness and self-aggrandizement of a thousands of amateur bureaucrats.
