I agree with you re: communication and middle ground, but I'd also like to point out the Friendzone Fiona meme as one indication of the really damaging conversation around this topic and a reason why many woman are more up in arms than seems immediately sensible/necessary, asked by baileyeverywhere

I was unaware of the Friendzone Fiona meme prior to your post—which should probably teach me to avoid jumping into conversations when I’m not sure what’s being talked about or whey we’re talking about it. Now that Google has helped me with the Friendzone Fiona thing … I actually still don’t get it.

Unless … the Friendzone was a high school thing, right? It’s from when we’re fumbly, confused, and stilly trying to figure out the whole relationship bit? It’s not something grown-ass adults whine about is it? At least, not grown-ass adults who aren’t acting like high schoolers?

Edit: Apparently it is an adult thing now. Or at least a thing among chronological adults who can’t figure out that part of caring for somebody means respecting their decisions. Weird.
