We have a security leak
Carolyn and I own over a thousand books, so it’s sometimes not easy to remember exactly what’s in the library. While I usually remember the books I acquire, Carolyn’s side of the collection has some I’m not familiar with.
On a couple of occasions, however, I’ve found a book I know I didn’t invite into the library. Usually mass-market paperback fantasy books are my fault—and since I know the genre, the strangers stuck out. I assumed they’d played into Carolyn’s childhood. Somehow. She denied knowledge. But … maybe she forgot? Or maybe a house guest left a book behind and it got swept up and filed. Things happen.
While packing for the move, I found this. It’s definitely not mine. Carolyn says it’s not hers. And—let’s face it. It has a label on it that seems to suggest that somebody had a garage sale and either paid somebody to take it away or offered to pay somebody to take it away but couldn’t find any takers. Also, it is by Michael Bolton. (Not the character from Office Space. The other Michael Bolton.)
So I didn’t bring it onto the house. Carolyn didn’t bring it into the house. What the heck was it doing in our book collection? And who owes me a dollar?
